Datin Dona Drury Wee is known to be actively involved in social work. She is the President of Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) advocating spaying and neutering of cats and dogs as a humane means of controlling the animal population. SSPCA is also actively involved in the programs to eradicate rabies in Sarawak through mass vaccination. They are now raising funds to build their new Animal Village which will house kennels for dogs and roomy aviaries for cats, a low cost neutering clinic, education facilities for school children and visitors, and a small dog park where dogs can exercise and be trained to walk on a leash.

In 2009, as the then President of the Sarawak Eurasian Association (SEA) Dona collated and published the “Legacy Cookbook” that won the 2011 Gourmand Awards for Best Cookbook on Local Cuisine in the World. This started her culinary journey and she now chairs the Culinary Heritage and Arts Society Sarawak, one of the NGOs that played a key role in Kuching’s bid to be recognized as a UNESCO City of Gastronomy and a member of the Creative Cities Network. She is currently the Deputy Chairman of the Sarawak Branch of the Trefoil Guild Girl Guides, and is a committee member of Friends of the Sarawak Museum.

With the Sarawak Trefoil Guild Girl Guides and the Sarawak Eurasian Association, Dona has worked with various community rehabilitation centers and groups such as “Meeting Needs”, to bring care packages to families with members, especially children, with disabilities. Over the past years they have visited over 50 families, delivering goods to them, especially during festive seasons, and helping the social workers to get updates on the conditions of the children as well as the state of the homes of these families.

Dona sits on the Board of Directors of BNDM Holdings, a family owned holding company that holds shares in public listed companies as well as other private businesses. Dona is also known to enjoy using music as a means to raise funds and has been invited to sing at several charity concerts. She held her own concert “Dona & Friends” many years ago and has continued to take vocal lessons under her various teachers over the years, Ms Venus Concepcion, Mr Chris Servey, Ms Gena Sim, and Ms Zhang Su Ling.
